Final Reflection

The commercial project was fun. I was most involved in going to the library and looking up design plans, floor plans, and the type of furniture that would go with my coffee shop. If I could change something about the project, I'd make the building bigger and work more on the parking lot. The reason why is that my building was on the small side and the parking lot looks weird and is sunk into the ground. What I learned through out this class is that I have a tendency to get off track. I also ended up changing what I'm going to major in when I go to college. I'm going to become a civil engineer.

This Coffee Shop will hold a maximum of 100 people. The property owner is William and Charity Coty. The address is 1254 E Us 224, Ossian, In 46777. The property is 5.11 acres with steep hills and a pond. My Structural calculations are not that big. The Live loads are as follows; Snow 20 psf, People 75 psf, and Furniture 83 psf. The assumed Dead loads is 90 psf. The total load is 268 psf. I used a W21x201 A36 steel beam. The Beam loading is 1876 lb/ft. The Allowable Bending Stress is 24000. The Maximum moment is 11490.5 lb/ft. The Section Modulus Required for Bending is 89.519. The allowable deflection is 0.23 in. The actual section modulus is 61.4 cubic in and the actual deflection is -0.01672. The surface water runoff will decrease seeing as how there is a pond. The preliminary cost estimate that I believe it will cost will be somewhere around $10,000 to $30,000. Accessible parking spaces shall be at least 96 in (2440 mm) wide. Sinks shall be mounted with the counter or rim no higher than 34 in (865 mm) above the finish floor. 100 gallons of water per day.
